A “stable low” at ONT? Who is LAWA kidding?

July 31, 2012

A spokeswoman for Los Angeles World Airports coined a new Orwellian term of art for Ontario International’s continuing loss of passengers.

Maria Tesoro Fermin called the passenger numbers for June 2012 (373,652, a 4.36 percent drop compared to last June) a "stable low."

Excuse me? "Stable" means not changing.

Delta Airlines has already announced it intends to drop its longstanding flight to Atlanta after Labor Day. That means the loss of two cross-country flights a day from ONT.

That’s not stable, Ms. Fermin. That’s a continuing decline.

Oh, and LAX’s passengers for June? Up 1.9 percent.

Thanks again, LAWA.
