Response from ONT airlines about incentive proposal expected soon

ONTARIO - Airlines at LA/Ontario International Airport are expected to respond, as early as today, on an incentive plan designed to attract more flights to the troubled facility.

The airlines were given until Friday to respond to a letter - sent out by ONT staffers - about the proposal, but were given an extension through the middle of this week, the airport's manager Jess Romo said.

The letter has been given to the Airlines Affairs Committee, made up of representatives from the carriers at ONT.

Leaders in the city of Ontario continued to apply pressure on Los Angeles World Airports last week with the formation of the Ontario International Airport Authority.

This is good news for travelers in the San Gabriel Valley and Whittier areas. Most of our flying is done out of Burbank and LAX, but the more options, the better.

AIRPORT: Ontario adds Riverside, OC to authority mix

The city of Ontario plans to choose Riverside Mayor Ron Loveridge and the head of the Orange County Business Council to fill out the rest of its recently formed five-member Ontario International Airport Authority, according to a statement sent from the city.

It’s the latest step in the city’s effort to gain control of the Inland airport from the city of Los Angeles, which has managed it since 1967 and owned it since 1985. The authority board wouldn’t have any oversight over Ontario airport unless the city of Los Angeles cedes control.

San Bernardino County joins forces with Ontario for airport JPA

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a joint-powers agreement with Ontario to guide marketing and development of the distressed L.A./Ontario International Airport should the city acquire it from Los Angeles.

Supervisor Gary Ovitt, whose district includes the airport, will sit on the five-member commission governing the Ontario International Airport Authority. The Ontario City Council appointed council members Alan Wapner and Jim Bowman to serve on the commission board when it approved the joint exercise-of-powers agreement on Aug. 21.

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY: Airport authority rolled into place

San Bernardino County supervisors unanimously approved the creation of an airport authority Tuesday, Aug. 28, with the hope it will eventually take control of Ontario International Airport from Los Angeles.

The joint powers authority — made up of the city of Ontario and the county — has no control over the airport at this point but Ontario has submitted a proposal to Los Angeles for local control.

Los Angeles is reviewing the offer and is expected to issue a report analyzing the proposal next month.
