Why the LA Airport Commission Never Meets in Ontario
Los Angeles World Airports owns and operates Ontario International Airport.
Its Board of Airport Commissioners used to meeting in Ontario from time to time, just to show the flag, you know, look like it’s interested in its Inland property.
Why doesn’t the board do that anymore? Ontario Councilman Alan Wapner asked at a regional meeting in Diamond Bar on Wednesday.
Because it wouldn’t be able to take any actions since Ontario is outside its jurisdiction, LAWA Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey said.
So ONT airport is owned by Los Angeles, but it’s outside its jurisdiction? Wapner shot back. Touché!
The Inland airport is at the center of a local-control struggle as it has lost more than a third of its passengers since 2007, while LAWA’s flagship property — LAX — is gaining.
