ONT authority approves plan to help fix airport's woes

ONTARIO - It's a question that has been asked over and over again: What would the Ontario International Airport Authority do if it had control of Los Angeles/Ontario International Airport?

The multi-jurisdictional alliance at its Monday morning meeting approved a formal document that details how it would address its four main goals - reducing airline costs, developing airport-related businesses, expanding air service and providing customer-friendly facilities and services.

If for some reason anyone thought that Los Angeles World Airports' hand-over of L.A./Ontario International Airport to local control might come quickly, the governing board's action and discussion Monday ought to disabuse them of that notion.

The Board of Airport Commissioners agreed to negotiate a letter of intent between LAWA and the Ontario International Airport Authority establishing terms that would result in LAWA selling ONT to the authority.

Don't get us wrong; we're quite pleased that the board took that step.

Los Angeles airport authorities have laid out their conditions for agreeing to sell Ontario International Airport.  L.A.’s Board of Airport Commissioners has given  its staff until April to try to negotiate a letter of intent with Ontario’s new airport authority. That would be the first step in a process that would lead to a sale.
 

LAWA approves resolution establishing guidelines for possible Ontario Airport sale

Los Angeles World Airports' governing board has approved a resolution establishing the guidelines for the potential sale of LA/Ontario International Airport to the city of Ontario.

The Board of Airport Commissioners agreed Monday to negotiate a letter of intent between the agency and the Ontario International Airport Authority establishing terms that would result in LAWA divesting of Ontario Airport . The commission is asking that the deadline for the letter be no later than April 1.

ONT passenger traffic flat for October

For the first time this year, passenger traffic decline at LA/Ontario International Airport is nearly flat from the same period last year.

Figures released by Los Angeles World Airports shows traffic for the month of October was down by just 0.8 percent. A total of 366,161 passengers traveled in and out of the airport compared to the 369,051 passengers that used the airport in 2011.

While Los Angeles International Airport expects to serve nearly 1.8 million passengers during the upcoming 10-day Thanksgiving travel period, ONT continues to struggle with attracting travelers.
